Oopss! HBO Itself Accidentally Leaked ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 Episode 6

August 16th, 2017

HBO doesn’t need hackers to leak its widely watched “Game of Thrones” episodes, as it is sufficient enough to leak them by its own.

In what seems to be a terrible blunder, HBO Spain appeared to have accidentally broadcast the next episode—Episode 6—of Game of Thrones season 7 five days before its official premiere.

And as expected, the GoT episode 6 quickly began circulating online.

HBO Offered Hackers $250,000 As Ransom to Prevent More Leaks

August 12th, 2017

Hackers who recently hacked into HBO network and stole scripts, shows, and employee information documents, have now provided an email in which the United States cable channel offered them $250,000.

The company offered the payment as a “bounty payment” reward in which companies reward white-hat hackers for discovering cyber security vulnerabilities in their computer networks.

Getting medieval: A military analysis of Game of Thrones’ Westeros War

August 10th, 2017

Warning: This post contains spoilers for the already aired episodes in season 7 of Game of Thrones.

With the seventh season of HBO’s Game of Thrones at its halfway point, Westeros is at war yet again. In the last two episodes (episodes 3 and 4), the forces aligned with Daenerys Targaryen and Cersei Lannister have met upon the fields (and seas) of battle at last. Things have not gone entirely according to plan for either side.

In fact things have gone so wrong, so fast that I thought it might be time to convene the Ars Technica Board of Fictional Military Historic Analysis—with its charter members, Jon Nichols and Steve Skaggs, two special operations professionals now in the private sector—in order to dive in on the biggest blunders and curious command decisions from both sides.

July 31st, 2017

If you are a die heart fan of ‘Game of Thrones’ series, there’s good news for you, but obviously bad for HBO.

Hackers claim to have stolen 1.5 terabytes of data from HBO, including episodes of HBO shows yet to release online and information on the current season of Game of Thrones.

What’s more? The hackers have already leaked upcoming episodes of the shows “Ballers” and “Room 104” on the

“The enemy is real,” and the new Game of Thrones trailer is too

June 22nd, 2017

It’s the new trailer for Game of Thrones season 7!

The second big trailer for Game of Thrones season 7 is here, and I’m starting to get pretty excited for the July 16 premiere. The cast and crew have promised that this penultimate season, only a measly 7 episodes, will move at a faster pace than previous ones. Plus, all the characters will eventually find themselves in the same place at some point near the end of the season.

This trailer promises a lot of action, including long-awaited dragon breath weapon situations where Dany is riding into battle on the back of Drogon. Plus we get glimpses of the Hound, Jon Snow among the Wildlings, and the Night King playing some kind of mind game with Bran’s warg powers. Arya is looking ultra-badass, as is Brienne (with cute li’l sidekick Pod, who has apparently learned to fight pretty well under her tutelage).

Obviously a battle is brewing, with some of the Grayjoys allying with Cersei Lannister, while it appears that Jon Snow is attempting to ally with Dany (and a bunch of Wildlings?). Also Gray Worm and the Unsullied are breaking into what appears to be Casterly Rock, the Lannister’s castle. No sightings of Sam, but we saw him at Maester school in the first trailer. So he’s in the mix.

Game of Thrones’ sixth season provided what the show sorely needed: Motion

June 27th, 2016

Spoiler alert: The below contains heavy spoilers for the Game of Thrones season six finale and the entire series to date. If you haven’t watched and want to go in fresh, stop reading now.

Think back to the very first scene of Game of Thrones. It wasn’t about Jon Snow or Daenerys Targaryen or Tyrion Lannister, though we meet all of these characters in the show’s opening hour. It’s about a small group of men from the Night’s Watch, barely named and swiftly dispatched, who encounter something so terrible that they’d rather be executed than face it. It’s the stuff of fairy tales and nightmares, it hates mankind, and it’s coming.

The confrontation between humanity and the eldritch terrors from north of the Wall has been Game of Thrones‘ endgame since that very first scene, but the six years of show since have moved toward that confrontation in fits and starts. At its best, the series draws us in completely, allowing us to root for multiple people on multiple sides of a conflict even when they change sides. Never has a show so effortlessly mastered the heel-face turn. At its worst, Game of Thrones meanders, too absorbed in the 8,000 little stories it’s trying to tell to meaningfully advance that Big Story.
